The shuttering block has spaced side walls (2,3) and a cross web (4) which defines vertical hollow chambers to be filled with concrete. The cross web has at at least its end facing the first side wall at least a first grooved indentation (13) for inserting a horizontal reinforcement rod and possibly a second indentation for a further rod. The first and second indentations can be at different heights.
