Embossing or coining roll gap adjustment uses markings on roll surface and endface clear or within die engravure so rolls can be turned to register markings and give required roll contact-free gap.
The two embossing or coining rolls (2,3) are lined up axially by means of a first marking on the roll surface lined up with the roll engravure e.g. male and female dies. The radial alignment of the rolls is afforded by markings (12) on the roll endface (13,13a). To ensure the rolls stand parallel but without contact at any point the two sets of markings on the two rolls should be moved until the markings lie in line and in exact register, thus also adjusting to the required roll gap. The face markings run right round the roller and the endface markings over part of the respective roll and both markings are in line shape. The face marking can be clear of the die engravure or if within the die then marking (12) should be deeper and recessed clear of the blank etc in coining.
