A drive magnet (4) is fixed to a rotating element (1) that rotates around a rotation axis (2). It and a coil arrangement (6) are coupled to an exciter magnet (5) that is held in a protection capsule (11). When the rotating element turns it cans the exciter magnet to flip over and so generate an energy pulse in the coil. A sensor arrangement (3) detects the energy pulse from the coil and so can determine the rotational position of the rotating element.
