Producing ceramic hollow fibers from nanoscale powders and resultant hollow fibers, by reacting a nanoscale oxide, carbide, nitride or sulfide powder with a oxacarboxylic acid and compounding the mixture with solvent(s) and polymeric binder(s) and/or a combination of monomer and free radical initiator in kneaders and mixers. Producing ceramic hollow fibers from nanoscale powders and resultant hollow fibers, comprises reacting a nanoscale oxide, carbide, nitride or sulfide powder with a oxacarboxylic acid and compounding the mixture with solvent(s) and polymeric binder(s) and/or a combination of monomer and free radical initiator in kneaders and mixers, where the ceramic composition is made into hollow fibers by extrusion or spinning and is sintered.
