The cylinder unit for a coating installation has a piston (2) displaceable in a cylinder (1), separating cylinder spaces (11,11') on opposite sides of it. The piston has two axially spaced lips (4,4') with which it locates in a sealed manner on the cylinder inner wall. The lip facing the first cylinder space provides a pressure-proof seal against a medum in that space. The second lip (4') provides a pressure-proof seal against the second cylinder space (11'). In the space (11') on one side of the cylinder a controlled feed fluid is conducted, which presses out the coating fluid on the other side through a cylinder outlet (8).
