Production of optical glass comprises transferring a glass melt into a conditioning sink after melting; and treating the melt with chlorine gas or a mixture of chlorine gas and oxygen which is introduced through a cooled gas feed pipe. An Independent claim is also included for a device for the production of optical glass comprising a conditioning sink (2), a gas feed pipe (2.1) for introducing chlorine gas or a mixture of chlorine gas and oxygen; and a cooling sleeve (2.2) which encloses the feed pipe and has a connection for a cooling medium.
