The method involves using image sensors such as charged coupled device matrix sensors or CMOS intensity sensors in video cameras to form video images of the objects under investigation. Quality characteristics of the parts or surfaces being investigated are optically enhanced by using special illumination. AN Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for imaging and optoelectronic testing of outer surfaces of cylindrical bodies in accordance with the inventive method.
