In one operating state, the eluate from the first chromatographic separating unit is transferred to the analysis unit, and in another operating state, the eluate from the second chromatographic separating unit is transferred to the analysis unit. Preferred Features: The spectrometer further comprises a sample conversion unit (2) which is arranged before the first and second chromatographic separating units. The sample conversion unit is an elemental analysis unit. The chromatographic separating units are gas chromatographic columns (7, 11).
