Engaging the clutch is produced during a shift process by determining a clutch ideal moment which during engagement is influenced so that the slipping phase is reduced. The clutch ideal moment is determined in dependence on at least one system parameter such as engine torque, engine speed, gear input speed, and the shift processes are effected by balancing the torque proportions dependent on the system values with factors.
