The container (3) has its open end covered by a cap (6) with an applicator in the form of a rod (8) with a tip (9) attached to its inner surface. The upper end of the container's neck holds an applicator wiper (11) made from a foam with at least 5 per cent open cells and surrounding the applicator's rod when it is in place in the container. In variants of the design the applicator wiper can be in contact with or totally immersed in the product. The foam applicator wiper can be made in the form of a cylindrical block of foam with slits or a central hole, a number of foam blocks of different densities, or a coiled foam strip.
