Nucleic acid sequence (I) that encodes a polypeptide (II) able to interact with proteins (III) of the p300/CBP and Rb families, including in vitro association, by protein-protein reaction, with a probe that includes amino acids (aa) 2366-2540 of the polypeptide dCBP (3190 aa sequence fully defined in the specification). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) sequences that hybridize to (I) under stringent conditions; (2) fragments (Ia) of (I) encoding an aa sequence derived from a cellular polypeptide able to interact with (III); (3) polypeptide (II) encoded by (I) or (Ia); (4) polypeptide (IIa) recognized specifically by purified antiserum that contains antibodies (Ab) raised against the peptide QDNEYRNRYPLSPIR (S1); (5) cellular polypeptides (IIb) that interact with (III) and undergo protein-protein reaction with a probe containing the aa chain of dCBP; (6) purified antiserum containing Ab raised against (II)-(IIb); (7) monoclonal Ab directed against (II)-(IIb); (8) method (M1) for determining the ability of a polypeptide to interact with proliferative activity of selected cells; (9) cloning and/or expression vectors containing (I) or (Ia); and (10) recombinant cells, prokaryotic or eukaryotic, containing (I), (Ia) or the vectors.
