Highly texturized and dispersible precipitated silica is used as thickening or texturing agent in toothpaste compositions

Use of precipitated silica of pH 3.5-9, DOP oil absorption above 200 ml/g, specific surface 70-250 m2/g, diameter (determined by laser diffraction) at least 20 microns, and residual anion content, expressed in sodium sulfate, below 5 wt.%, as thickening or texture agent in toothpaste compositions. Use of precipitated silica of pH 3.5-9, preferably 5-8, DOP oil absorption above 200 (preferably above 250) ml/g, specific surface 70-250 (preferably 100-200) m2/g, diameter (determined by laser diffraction) at least 20 (preferably at least 25) microns, and residual anion content, expressed in sodium sulfate, below 5 (preferably below 3) wt.%, as thickening or texture agent in toothpaste compositions. Independent claims are also included for: (1) process of thickening of, or adding texture to toothpaste compositions, by incorporation into these composition of silica as claimed; and (2) toothpaste compositions comprising silica used as claimed, in de-agglomerated and/or dispersed state, in form of elements of median diameter below 50 microns, preferably below 20 microns.
