The use of FHA (filamentous hemagglutinin protein) or its functional equivalent in the preparation of (i) an immunological adjuvant composition (where the FHA protein or equivalent is in free form); or (ii) an immunostimulant composition, is new. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) immunological adjuvant compositions containing FHA in free form or a derived sequence; (2) immunogenic compositions containing an adjuvant as in (1), together with an immunogenic molecule or antigen; (3) a vaccine comprising an immunogenic composition as in (2) together with a carrier; and (4) an immunostimulant composition containing FHA or its functional equivalent as an active agent, together with a carrier.
