The IC engine receives fuel from a pump via a conduit. For detecting the leakage of fuel, in the engine, the fuel flow via the pump is stopped, and one closes (80,94) the fuel conduit to one part of the system. The fuel pressure in the fuel system is then measured (82,86,100,104), and if the pressure in the system falls below a threshold value (88,106), then a fault signal is generated (90,108).
