Engine and drive unit with automatic gearbox fitted with a ratio range doubler, uses coupler with torsion dampers and dual clutch to selectively provide direct drive or speed reduced drive to the automatic gearbox
The motor vehicle drive train (10) has an engine (12) driving an automatic gearbox (14) through a coupling (16) external to the gearbox. The coupling has a torsion damper (18) and a dual control clutch (20) on either side and can drive the gearbox directly or alternatively through a speed de-multiplier device (22).
