PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intelligent charger for a self-propelled carrier vehicle which can automatically perform suitable charging work to a self-propelled carrier vehicle which has arrived on electrode plates, corresponding to the residue of a battery, without receiving a command from a ground controller. SOLUTION: This charger is provided with a voltage detection circuit 2 for detecting a voltage applied across a pair of electrode plates installed on a travel road, from touchers 9 of a self-propelled carrier vehicle 7, a charging circuit 3 for charging a battery 10 from a pair of the electrode plates through the touchers 9, and a charge control circuit 4. The voltage detecting circuit 2 detects a voltage, and the charging circuit starts charging. When a charging current rises sharply at the time of charge start, the charging current is maintained to be a constant value lower than or equal to a specified value after the charging current has reached the specified value, and the charge is continued for a specified period until the battery is fully charged. When the charging current rises slowly at charge start, charging is so controlled that the battery does not become overcharged, by ending charging in a short time from charge start.
