PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic stirring apparatus and an electromagnetic stirring method for continuous casting with which an electromagnetic coil can be exchanged during casting and this coil can be moved to the longitudinal direction of a cast slab.;SOLUTION: In this electromagnetic stirring apparatus for continuous casting, with which molten steel is stirred by applying moving magnetic field generated with one or more of electromagnetic coils to the molten steel in the cast slab in a continuous casting machine, the electromagnetic coils are composed of one pair of U-shaped electromagnetic coils arranged at the outer periphery of the above cast slab.
