PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the determination of a paralytic shellfish poison simple, having high accuracy, independent of the kind of shellfish toxin and having a constant sensitivity.;SOLUTION: A method for preparing an antibody against a paralytic shellfish poison comprises the following steps: an arbitrary dithiol compound having two or more sulfhydryl groups is bound to the 11th position of saxitoxin to prepare a saxitoxin sulfhydryl derivative having a free sulfhydryl group; on the other hand, a protein into whose amino group an arbitrary functional group having sulfhydryl group directivity has been introduced, is prepared; the saxitoxin sulfhydryl derivative is made to react with the modified protein to prepare an antigen; and an animal other than human is immunize with the obtained antigen, and an antiserum recognizing the paralytic shellfish poison is obtained from the animal.
