PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system allowing the use of a pictographic character other than preliminarily registered ones in an electronic mail by a cellular phone.;SOLUTION: A server 11 stores at least one pictographic file of pictographic characters, and discloses the pictographic characters on a WEB so as to be downloadable. The cellular phone 13 requests the download of the pictographic file and stores the received pictographic file to be usable in electronic mails. When an electronic mail including the code of a pictographic character not stored in the inner part is received, the cellular phone 13 displays a prescribed icon in the code part of the electronic mail, and requests the download of the pictographic file to the server 11 when this icon is selected. When the pictographic file is received, the cellular phone stores it to be usable in electronic mails, and applies it to the electronic mail under display.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
