PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome disadvantages that a plurality of steps are conventionally required to produce a transparent high-impact polystyrene resin.;SOLUTION: A process and an apparatus for efficient and rapid conversion of an elastomeric monomer into a polymerized elastomer and conjointly a reaction of the resultant rubbery polymer into a monovinylaromatic polymerization reaction to form a rubber-modified polymer are disclosed. More specifically, a process for polymerizing butadiene and reacting the resultant polymerized butadiene with styrene monomer to form a transparent rubber-modified impact- resistant polystyrene material exhibiting an elastomer concentration that ranges from as low as ≤6 wt.% to as high as about 50% is provided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
