PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic evaluating method for a machine translation sentence for improving ranking accuracy. SOLUTION: This automatic evaluating method for the machine translation sentence automatically evaluating the quality of a mechanically translated translation sentence, is composed of a leaning step and an evaluating step. The learning step has a step of previously ranking by manpower, and encoding a plurality of respective learning machine translation sentences for which a correct translation sentence is previously prepared by manpower as a vector composed of elements according to a kind and the number of editing distances by using a plurality of kinds of editing distances to the correct translation sentence for the machine translation sentences, and a step of learning a ranking rule with the obtained vector as a training example.
