PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of downsizing a fuel cell and manufacturing a compact fuel cell. SOLUTION: The fuel cell is equipped with an electrolyte material 6, electrodes 4, 8 and interconnection sections 2, 10. Manifolds 11 can be arranged either within the electrodes or the interconnection sections. A method commonly used in the industry of ultra-small electronic equipment is adopted in manufacturing the compact fuel cell. The compact fuel cell is made by laminating a fuel cell on top of another for maintaining a sufficient level of power density and durability.
