PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish techniques for using certificates or the like utilizing the characteristics of printed documents (paper documents) by correctly verifying signatures from signature information recorded on printed documents and from the printed documents. PSOLUTION: A document printing device for printing documents prints document designating information for designating electronic documents and signature information for the document designating information, along with the electronic documents. The signature information comprises a digital signature created by use of an encryption key. A document authentication device reads the document including the document designating information and the signature information of the document designating information, and document verification information is output by a retrieval means and an authentication means.
