PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for culturing microorganisms, capable of more effectively culturing the microorganism in a magnetic field than ever.;SOLUTION: This method for culturing the microorganisms comprises culturing the microorganisms in the magnetic field by laying a cluster of magnets in which two or more magnets are together joined in a culture medium, so as to form the magnetic field having magnetic gradients due to differences of intervals between neighboring magnets, and culturing the microorganisms therein. A method for producing a substance by using the microorganism is conducted in a similar manner. The magnet preferably has such a structure that at least one surface of the magnet is formed into an approximately curved surface and north and south magnetic poles thereof are arranged on the same surface that forms the approximately curved surface. Thus, the structure brings about the magnetic field having the magnetic gradients due to the differences of the intervals between the neighboring magnets in the cluster. Therefore, the microorganisms are cultured under a circumstance where the magnetic ingredients exist, so that the microorganisms are activated and promoted in their propagation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
