PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile gateway that utilizes a real time Internet facsimile protocol described in the ITU-T recommendations T. 38 so as to attain communication of a facsimile terminal independently of a new model or an old model of the facsimile terminal without error-terminating the communication. SOLUTION: The gateways 104, 108 forcibly converts a bit 3 of an FIF of a DIS/DCS/DTC signal received from the Internet (IP network) 106 into '1' to transmit the signal to the facsimile terminals 100, 112 in the transmission reception of the DIS/DCS/DTC signal by taking into account the facsimile terminal of one of the gateway is an old type terminal (e.g. the facsimile terminal 100) that cannot understand control of the bit 3 of the FIF of the DIS/DCS /DTC signal.
