"PROCESS FOR APPLYING A CHEMICAL ADDITIVE TO A FIBER MAT; PROCESS TO APPLY AN ADDITIVE TO A FIBER MAT; AND SOFT PAPER PRODUCT". A process for applying a chemical additive, such as a fabric softener, to a fibrous mat is described, comprising the steps of: providing a fibrous mat having a first side and a second side opposite the first side; make available a chemical additive; deposit the chemical additive only on the first side of the fibrous blanket; cause the first side of the fibrous mat to contact the second side of the fibrous mat, thereby partially transferring the chemical additive from the first side to the second side of the fibrous mat such that the first side and the second side of the fibrous mat fibrous mat comprises the chemical additive in a functionally sufficient amount. Preferably, the step of making the two sides of the web contact each other comprises rewinding the web into a roll.
