REGIOSELECTIVE PROCESSES FOR SYNTHESIZING CIS-1-AMINO-2-INDANOL

The invention relates to regioselective processes for synthesizing cis-1-amino-2-indanol, compound which inhibits the protease encoded by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and in particular certain oligopeptide analogues. According to the invention, the processes are achieved by starting either from 1,2-indandiol with the retention of the stereochemical integrity of carbon-oxygen bond in the second position of 1,2-indandiol, or from 2-halo-1-indanol, with the inversion of the stereochemistry of the carbon atom in the second position of the indan core.
