Disclosed is a nucleic acid encoding delta-5,7-sterol-delta- 7-reductase A DNA or RNA sequence coding for a delta-5,7-sterol- delta-7-reductase (DSDR) protein, as well as the cloning process, process for the reduction of sterols unsaturated in the position C-7 and process for the production of pregnenolone.
