The circuit has a DC converter, preferably containing a converter-transformer, which converts the voltage of a remote supply source in an exchange, which can be connected to a transmission line, and hence supplies it to a local station. A monitoring device (23) in the local station determines the current power requirement of the local station and the subscriber terminals connected to it and controls the source in the exchange depending on the detected requirement via a transmitter connected to the transmission line (1,2). Independent claims are also included for a method of remote supply and for a communications system.
