A foam collar system for boats which is affixed to theexternal surface of the boat hull. The foam collar system isformed from a molded polymeric foam material, a reinforcementcoating on the outer surface of the polymeric foam and a surfacecoating on at least a portion of the reinforcement coating. Thefoam collar acts as a fender for the boat during boarding ofother craft or mooring. In this manner, a durable, highlyattractive foam fender system for high speed boats with planinghulls is provided. Also disclosed is a method for making thefoam collar and a boat including the foam collar. The foamfender does not require inflation, it can be fabricated in anaesthetically pleasing manner, it is durable and it isinexpensive to make and maintain.
