PURPOSE: Provided is a method for the production of an extract from ginkgo biloba L. by supercritical fluid extraction, which is more economical and environment friendly than solvent extraction. The extract contains bio-active components, such as ginkgolide A, B, C and bilobalide in high purity. CONSTITUTION: A method for the production of an extract of ginkgo biloba L. is characterized by supercritical fluid extraction using a mixed fluid of 70-97 volume% of carbondioxide and 3-30 volume% of co-solvent. The co-solvent is selected from the group consisting of ethanol, methanol, water, normal hexane, and ethylacetate. The extract contains ginkgolide A, B, C and bilobalide, as well as 5ppm or less of ginkgolic acid.
