A method for recognizing falsification of finger prints involves detecting (200) an image sequence which contains a number of images of the finger print being examined, detecting (202) the finger lines and finger rills in successive images of the detected image sequence and then determining (204) a ratio (VRV) of rills to lines in each image for which rills and lines were ascertained. Independent of the profile of the ratio (VRV), it is then determined whether the detected image sequence stems from an actual/real finger or from an imitation/fake finger.
