Master-slave data transmission method in which a slave sends a first request data packet to the master so that a response is issued by the master in the form of the first bit of a second data packet. The response packet is sent during receipt of the first data packet. To this end the processing time in the slave and the transmission time from the slave to the master are the same as the bit time. The method is implemented in a control device, especially using SPI (serial peripheral interface) data packets. Typically a microcontroller is the master, while a peripheral sensor or actuator is a slave.
