Unit position monitoring system for motor vehicle drive, using position signaler with several sensors, one of which has stepwise response near commencement of unit movement

Position signaler comprises two sensors for measuring the position of a unit, whereby both sensors have given characteristic curves (16,18) with the first sensor having a characteristic curve that is essentially linear over the whole positioning range and the second sensor has a curve that has a step behavior in a first part of the positioning range and then is essentially linear. Method for monitoring a position signaler whereby two sensors with different characteristic curves are used and for fault detection a plausibility test of the signal is carried out.
