The connecting element for components in a motor vehicle has a pivoting arm (5) which can hinge around a pivot point (11) from a lowered not-in-use position to an in-use position. The pivoting arm has a support arm (6) which is mounted to pivot around a pivot point (12) and by the end opposite the pivot point is connected to the pivoting arm via a guide (13). The pivot point of the pivoting arm runs approximately parallel to the pivot point of the support arm. The guide for the support arm is fitted on the underside of the pivoting arm.
