Arrangement for coupling of illumination radiation into the beam path of a laser scanning microscope using a BEREK type prism as the coupling optical element. Accordingly the incident illumination radiation (2) is deflected through three total internal reflection angles of 90 degrees. The prism (7) is placed directly in front of the pupil (10) of the objective (11) or in an image of the pupil so that the beam output surface (8) of the prism at least partially covers the objective pupil.
