(1S/R)-1-((1S/R)-1,5-Dimethyl-hex-5-enyl)-4-methyl-cyclohex-3-en-1-ol (iso- beta -bisabolol) (I) is new. (1S/R)-1-((1S/R)-1,5-Dimethyl-hex-5-enyl)-4-methyl-cyclohex-3-en-1-ol (iso- beta -bisabolol) of formula (I) is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) configurational isomers of (I) (or mixtures thereof) selected from (1R)-1-((1R)-1,5-dimethyl-hex-5-enyl)-4-methyl-cyclohex-3-en-1-ol and/or the (1R)-1-((1S)- isomer; (2) a mixture of two or more configurational isomers of (I) in which the mol ratio of isomer(s) with the R-configuration at C1 to the isomer(s) with the S-configuration at C1 and/or the mol ratio of the two compounds given in (1) above is greater than 1, preferably greater than 2; (3) flowery-smelling configurational isomers of (I) (or mixtures of 2 or 3 such isomers), obtained by preparing a mixture of all the configurational isomers and separating the mixture (or a fraction thereof) by chiral gas chromatography; (4) perfume and/or aroma compositions containing an organoleptically active amount of (I), a configurational isomer of (I) or a mixture of 2 or more such isomers as the perfume and/or aroma substance.
