The pan pipes have a series of pipes of different lengths and a piston for varying the length of the air column set in vibration in each pipe for facilitating and making possible the playing of the pipes in different tone types. The piston comprises the following parts:- a piston cap (2) comprising a cork disk, a fixture disk (3) for stabilizing the seal, a seal (4) made of foam, (5) a cork pin as guide, stabilization (6) preventing the seal being pressed together on displacement, thus shortening the piston and a threaded bar (7) for connecting a slide mechanism. The slide mechanism consists of a small distance tube (8) for fine tuning of the deep tone range, a stop ring (9) for maintaining the position of a piston in the deep tone range, a further stop ring (10), a second small distance tube (11), a first threaded bush (15), a first grip (16) for maintaining the piston in the basic tone range, a rod (12), a second threaded bush (17) and a second grip (18) for maintaining the position of the piston in the high tone range.
