A light-sensitive sensor element/diode (18) converts light intensity pulsating in intervals of time into an electric signal also pulsating in intervals of time. A unit detects frequency in the electric signal. A processor unit (26) generates data for correcting image data captured by a camera by relying on frequency detected by the processor unit. Varying frequency in variable light intensity is measured and used as an input variable for an algorithm used to generate data needed to correct variations in light intensity. A fluorescent tube (10) runs on a usual 50/50 Hertz mains frequency. Since gas discharge in the fluorescent tube occurs by relying on the mains frequency, intensity from light (12) radiated from it varies. A camera uses this radiated light to take pictures and generate associated image data (16). An Independent claim is also included for a method for correcting variation in light intensity affected by network voltage and caused with artificial sources of light while taking pictures with a camera.
