The flow monitor includes a valve (300, 800) which closes if a preset flow rate is exceeded. It also contains an electromagnet (900) which can close the valve when current is supplied to it. This makes remote control of the valve possible. The flow monitor can be combined with insertion couplings (400, 500) in the form of two rings (100, 200), one fitting in the other to connect up the line.
