The cylinder tube (3) is encased by an outer tube (15) which in turn is fixed to one of the telecoping units (7,3) and so forms an annulus (17,35) with the other unit with enclosed bearings (19,21) to position the units to one another. The bearings have roller supports (23,25) to fix the bearings to the units (7,3) and the tube (3) contains a piston rod guide (11) to register axially with the bearing (19). Bearing (19) has a lubricating grease depository and the tube (3) lies within a container (29), radially designed to enclose part of the outer tube (15). Tube (3) and container (29) enclose an expansion space (31) for the tube working medium.
