To bond a plastics channel to roof lining,the channel is bonded to part of the cladding by ultrasonic welding. The channel has welding flange(s) to be secured to the cladding. Where the roof cladding forms a part of the vehicle impact energy management system, part of the channel is bonded to a part of the protective cushions and the backing layer of the roof cladding by ultrasonic welding. To bond a plastics channel (104) to the roof lining (106) of a motor vehicle (102) in a channel/roof cladding unit (100), at least part of the channel is bonded to at least part of the cladding by ultrasonic welding. The channel has at least one welding flange (116) to be secured to the cladding by ultrasonic welding. Where the roof cladding forms a part of the vehicle impact energy management system to protect the occupants, at least a part of the channel is bonded to a part of the protective cushions and the backing layer of the roof cladding by ultrasonic welding.
