The extendable roof for vehicles has a wall (8) of flexible material between the underside of the edge region of the roof leaf (3) and edge region of the roof aperture (2). Metal spring bands (10) are fastened to the flexible wall and because of their spring tensioning are rolled from an extended state into a spiral form. The metal spring bands, with regard to the tensioned state of the flexible wall in the open position of the roof leaf, reach in their extended state in the vertical direction from a half height position of the wall upwards to the roof leaf or downwards to the roof section fastened to the vehicle. With closing of the roof leaf the flexible wall is rolled up together with the metal spring bands.
