PURPOSE: To obtain a process for producing a water-base pigment ink which has a high optical density, forms a black matrix excellent in film smoothness and having a low conductivity, and imparts a high resolution to a color filter. ;CONSTITUTION: This process comprises the step of finely dispersing a carbon black having an oil absorption of 100ml/100g or lower in an aq. medium and the step of oxidizing the same with a hypohalite.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
