A method for the fabrication of a molded wear resistant article of Al-Si hyper-eutectic alloy containing Cu consists of: (a) preparing a molten Al-Si hyper-eutectic alloy containing 14 - 18% by wt. of Si, 0.001 - 0.02% by wt. of P and 2 - 5% by wt. of Cu; (b) receiving the molten alloy in a soaking furnace for casting; (c) maintaining the molten alloy at a temperature in a range of (23 asterisk % Si+387) deg C to (23 asterisk % Si+357) deg C; (d) pouring the molten alloy from the furnace into a casting mould.
