Electronic device (10) has a alphanumeric keypad (14) and an input controller (24) which in response to activation of one of the keys (28) selects an alphanumeric character (20) corresponding to the key presses. In addition at least one alphanumeric character corresponds to a combination of two different pressed keys, whereby each of the keys used in the key combinations when pressed on their own would correspond to a different alphanumeric character.
