An exhaust-gas jet (14) conducts a jet of exhaust gas from an exhaust-gas outlet into an air channel to cause the jet of exhaust gas to flow at a spaced relationship to all sidewalls of air channel and be surrounded by cooling air flow component in such a manner that jet is a core flow and a cooling air component flow is essentially a jacket flow surrounding the core flow. The arrangement includes a muffler has a muffler housing partitioned into an inlet space (9) and an outlet space (10). The muffler has an exhaust-gas inlet opening formed into the inlet space and connected to an exhaust gas stub adjacent a cylinder, and an exhaust-gas outlet for conducting exhaust gas out of the outlet space. The air channel has one end for receiving the cooling air component flow, and another end where cooling air component flow exits. The cooling-air component flow is branched from a cooling-air flow of a cooling-air blower and enters at the one end of the air channel. The cooling-air component flow exits again at the other end of the air channel.
