Data recording system comprises a recording support (10) with a phase change layer (16), a recording element having a stylus (32) for applying writing current to the phase change layer, and resistive elements (40, 42, 44) for local dispersion of the writing current. Preferred Features: The resistive elements (40, 42, 44) for local dispersion of the writing current comprise a layer of resistive material (42) externally coated on the writing stylus (32), which itself is made of resistive material, and at least one layer of resistive material (40) located on the writing side of the phase change layer (16). The resistive elements for local dispersion of the writing current have resistivity between the values of resistivity of the phase change layer (16) respectively in two phases of signal coding. The resistive elements are selected from W2C, TiN, ITO, Cr, Si and C (graphite or diamond), or a combination of these materials. An Independent claim is given for a data recording support (10) having resistive material layers (40, 44) on at least one side of the phase change layer (16). The resistive material layer has decreasing resistivity in the direction of the phase change layer (16), or the resistivity of the surface section of the phase change layer (16) is modified and forms the resistive material layer. The support (10) preferably comprises a silicon substrate with at least one doped layer forming a resistive element and/or a buried electrode.
