The inventive method is based on tracking and uses a measurement device (1) with a target (2) fixed to an object (3) being monitored and a camera (4) for generation of information about displacement or deformation of the object. The target has a pattern of points in the form of a central points surrounded by a circle of points, which is used to calibrate the measurement device regardless of the distance between target and camera. Measurement values can be determined along three axes (X, Y, Z). The invention also relates to a corresponding device.
