New double-stranded oligonucleotide, useful e.g. for treating tumors and studying gene function, represses growth factor genes by RNA interference

A double-stranded oligonucleotide (ON) comprising two chains of equal length, each having, at the same 5' or 3' end, 1-5 unpaired nucleotides (nt), forming single-stranded overhangs flanking the hybridized region, is new. One strand is complementary to the DNA or mRNA of a gene encoding a growth factor that is to be specifically repressed.
